Impossible Ultraviolet established the foundation of the series: unforgiving difficulty, persistent upgrades, and RPG-style hero development. Players select one of 15 unique heroes, build customized unit squads, and fight through randomized missions that ensure no two runs feel quite the same. Core concept is simple: destroy all Mature Crysalis that spawns enemy units periodically to reduce enemy advances and to go on to next stage.
Notable Features:
- Four difficulty levels, plus a hidden “Impossible+” mode
- Gas represents a hero's mana pool slowly regenerating over time
- Unlockable heroes and abilities through game codes
- Extensive spawn and event randomization
- Upgrade stations with simplified ore-only costs
- Mission rewards based on performance and team kill count
- Adaptive bonuses when fewer players are present
Impossible UV 2 & 3
- Versions: UV2 1.04 and UV3 0.04
- Download: Impossible UV 2 & Impossible UV 3
UV 2 and UV 3 expand upon the core UV1 formula with new terrain, enemy compositions, and balance tweaks. They retain the same core mechanics but refine pacing, mission layouts, and player roles. Starting in UV2 some stages have invincible Mature Crysalis (or other buildings) that requires you to destroy a certain building (ex. Overmind) first to disable invincibility, adding to the difficulty. Ideal for veterans of UV1 looking to test their skills further on fresh maps. UV3 sees the introduction of buying minerals and random selection in shop, also it is the only current UV that does not contain boss level.
Impossible UV 4 (in development)
- Version: 0.42b
- Download: Impossible UV 4
UV 4 represents the largest leap forward in the series, introducing major systems and gameplay overhauls:
- STATS system: Each player now has attributes across five categories – Strength (melee damage), Tactics (ranged damage), Aptitude (magic damage), Tenacity (health armor), Speed (shield armor) – enabling more deliberate team compositions and diverse builds.
- Overhauled unit selection: Units are now purchasable in a shop style setup allowing for unique combinations not previously selectable
- New hero options with more complex spell kits and multiple upgrade paths
- Smarter difficulty scaling and tighter spawn randomization
- Streamlined UI and upgrade structure, with better hotkeys and cleaner layout
UV4 maintains the fast-paced, tactical challenge of previous entries but adds a new layer of strategy and experimentation. It’s designed to reward deep understanding of mechanics, team synergy, and flexibility under pressure. It is the longest map in the series to date with a grueling 7 missions and final boss fight. Due to this expansion, max player count has been reduced from 6 to 5 to make room for one additional enemy AI.
Impossible UV 5 (planned)
While still in conceptual stages, UV 5 is intended to return many features to the previous style including allowing for up to 6 players and having fewer missions for a less grueling experience, all while maintaining the advancements implemented in the UV 4 which have dramatically improved the quality of life of the experience.
